For this assignment, we had more freedom to chose what we wanted to do to, with the only rule that the major piece of the artwork had to be text. I chose this particular typography project for various reasons. It is pleasant for the eye, I really liked the colours involved, since blue and green are my favourite colours. It was somewhat challenging, since some of the things I had to do in this piece I had not done before. The word “Artron” was chosen because it is the name of my mother’s work place, and I thought it would be a good idea to do something for “her”. It has no particular meaning apparently, although my father believes it mean “taking art to a new level”

The choice of the jellyfish was because a) I am quite fond of those little awkward and cute creatures and b) because it was the type of brush used on the tutorial for this typography project. I am quite pleased with the final look and I believe my mother would be proud! 🙂

Here, we had to make a T-Shirt design for the Graduating students of my class. Since I love superheroes, I decided to use it as my “theme”. Drawing in Illustrator, my idea was to draw a “School Hero” that could be looking after the students at Regiopolis. So I drew the kid and the superhero, both with the school colours. It was a fun project to make and I really like the end result, though if I was re making it, I would have taken more time drawing the head and feet of the hero, and would have written RND 2013 in the back.

Machado de Souza - PS Project

I used a combination of pictures, in this piece, that represented who I am, like the Brazilian flag on the background, and other things I like. I tried to mask the flag with the other background, the stars and the lonely tree – so that the viewer could see both, but still unified so they would look good together. I brought the quote to the right side , so that when the viewer is reading the “Follow Your Heart” phrase, in the center, his eyes would be directed to that quote by an implied line. Also, the image on the back, behind Batman and Robin is my city in Brazil, and the top left picture is me and my brazilian friend.

In the photomontage assignment, we had to choose a picture that we liked, or that meant something to us, and resize it, placing the pieces back in the canvas, but changing the direction, in a way that would still make the picture look like it was supposed to. I chose this particular picture because it is something that represents my country. This statue is known all over and I think it’s beautiful, so I decided to use it. I tried to change the pieces in a way that would still make sense, and I think that it it goes well together. Even though they are not the same colour or patter anymore, they fit well together in the page, after I applied an effect on top of everything.
